I work in customer service at a dental office.  We had a front desk meeting one day with the clinic administrator, discussing how things were going and if any changes needed to be made.  At this particular meeting one of the doctors wanted to sit in, pay for lunch – which was an I Spy God all in itself – and answer any questions we might have about procedures or anything dentistry related.

The meeting went well; I wasn’t in too much trouble… again, another I Spy God moment…when I asked the doctor about root canals, how they work, what transpires, etc…  The doctor’s answer surprised me.

He began to explain the procedure:

“A tooth is hollow, like our bones, and is composed of several layers; enamel, dentin and pulp.  Enamel is the hard outside layer above the gum line.  Dentin is also hard, but beneath the gum line, and contains nerve endings.  Pulp is tissue composed of capillaries, blood vessels, connective tissue, nerve fibers, cells and root, and is what warns us of an issue by transmitting pain.I numb the area of the infected tooth with anesthesia and then make a small hole through the enamel and dentin to remove the pulp.  Then place a rubbery filling into the tooth root to seal off the tooth from bacteria.Then, should a root canal fail and an implant needed, I would screw a titanium implant into the jaw, which the bone and tissue adhere to holding the implant in place as well as decreasing the likelihood of bone loss…”

… as he continued talking, it became more and more clear how awesome our God is!!

This God who flung the stars into space;

“There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.”   1 Corinthians 15:41

“Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”   Isaiah 40:26

This God who speaks things into existence;

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”   Genesis 1:3

This God created such gigantic, amazing things also created the tiniest molecule and put careful thought and detail into just creating this tooth!

“Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself,”   Isaiah 44:24

He created its nerves and roots to warn us if something is wrong.

“You clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.”   Job 10:11

He gave dentists wisdom to clean out the roots and salvage the tooth, and created the bone and tissue to adhere to a titanium implant as if it were the tooth itself, if that’s what was needed.

“And Jesus answered and said to them, “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick.”   Luke 5:31

“Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?…”   Jeremiah 8:22a

Oh my word, talk about listening to God explain His creation through this doctor… down to the slightest detail!

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”   Psalm 139:13-14

Amazing.
