Beginnings of Early Mankind (Creation to ca. 2100 B.C)

The Beginning

“Is it possible to imagine a time when nothing existed?  Was there a time when the universe had a beginning?  Since recorded history began, men and women of every generation, culture, and place have searched for answers.  Some say it all happened by chance, without any reason or purpose whatever.  But given what appears to be intelligent design and order throughout the universe, an origin by chance seems hard to accept.  And life without meaning seems clearly contrary to the very mind which searches for meaning.  So what are the answers?  Where did I come from, and why am I here?  How did it all begin?”

Read Genesis 1-2:4

Adam and Eve

“The Genesis account of the beginnings of all things is a revelation which ascribes creation to an all-powerful, all-knowing, and purposeful Supreme Being–a living Creator and spiritual God acting with meaningful deliberation.

…giving a special account of the first man and woman, known as Adam and Eve.  Adam is formed first from elements of the earth, then Eve is formed from part of Adam’s own body, suggesting a wholeness and unity between man and woman.

In Eden, Adam and Eve live in a time of innocence until both are tempted by a serpent; being used on this occasion by the Devil, who will subsequently be identified as God’s adversary in the spirit realm and the great Tempter of mankind to do evil.  The effect of Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God is a new acquaintance with sin and the reality of punishment in which they, like all generations thereafter, must face the hardships and struggles which life on the earth imposes.”

All quotations taken from The Daily Bible

Tristan

“But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying. And they said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ She said to them, ‘Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.’ When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?’ Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, ‘Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.’”   John 20:11-15

After my six year old Tristan read this scripture this morning, his head snapped up, eyes wide open expressing an incredulous stare.  “He’s right in front of her!!”  He exclaimed. He could not believe she didn’t see it was Jesus.

When I was a kid, I grew up knowing that Jesus died on the cross, but it didn’t matter (or I didn’t care) much more than that.  I was taught that as long as I believed in God, knew Jesus died on that cross and was a good person, well…that’s all I needed.

I learned the stories of Adam and Eve at my Grandma’s church and Evolutionary fact at school and both somehow lived cohesively within my mind.  I ignoramusly never questioned the conflict between the two.

Creation surrounded me.  God’s protection covered me.  Jesus stood before me and I couldn’t see Him.

The Bible tells us that we are blind to God’s truths until it is revealed to us:

“in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”   2 Corinthians 4:4

“to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.”   Acts 26:18

This morning God reminded me through a six year old boy that He is always there, always working, always loving, we just need to slow down, pay attention and open our eyes.  He works through so many inconsequential things, we hardly recognize Him.

Don’t be so concerned with the things around you that you miss what’s right in front of you!!

“Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years”   Genesis 1:14

Sunset Mist

“Drip down, O heavens, from above, And let the clouds pour down righteousness; Let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, And righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD, have created it.”    Isaiah 45:8

Job is mad at his friends in chapter 12 and chapter 13 because of their advice and accusations, but Job still gives glory to God, even though he’s not feeling very worshipful.  Job, by just pleading his case to his friends, acknowledges God’s creation and power;

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you.”   Job 12:7-8

“If he tears down, none can rebuild…
With him are strength and sound wisdom…
He pours contempt on princes and loosens the belt of the strong.
He uncovers the deeps out of darkness and brings deep darkness to light.
He makes nations great, and he destroys them…”
Job 12:14, 16, 21-23

I have found that I love taking pictures.  I realized this when I was training for my 1/2 marathon last year.

Haunted Hustle 1/2 Marathon

Yes shocker, I ran a 1/2 marathon.  Ran the whole thing too!!  And yes, I dressed up as wonder woman.

Don’t even think about it.

But what I found as I trained, running outside usually before dawn, was the amazing majesty and beauty that surrounds us.  Especially when the first rays of light pours its radiance out upon the dark rolling hills and jagged corners.

Amazing.

I always had my phone with me on those early morning runs, losing myself in the music, but as God revealed His glory to me through His light peeking over the horizon, I began to capture those moments through the, albeit limited, lens on my phone.

I began to look forward to spending time with Him in His creation and looking for Him at other times as well and discovered how much He reveals Himself to us through it!  I even started another blog where I only post photos and scripture revealing God’s astounding creation: Omniscience

God is an amazing artist and everywhere you look you can see His handiwork.  The Bible even says that God will not be ignored — creation screams His name, even if  no, especially when we won’t.

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”   Romans 1:20 (esv)

“‘I tell you,’ he replied, ‘if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.'”   Luke 19:40 (niv)

Job doesn’t understand his suffering and he knows he has done nothing to “deserve” it as his friends have suggested.  Still, because he is aware of God’s presence around him, he is able to remain faithful in the Lord.  He questions, but still has hope and knows he will be vindicated. [Job 13:15-18]

Are you feeling like God has left you alone and empty?
Even in this struggle you’re going through, in these hard times you’re facing… God is with you.
His magnificence surrounds you!

Just take a look around!
