Martyrdom of Stephen

“Throughout the centuries since the death of Jesus, thousands of Christians have died as martyrs to the cause of Christ.  It is only fitting, then, that Luke should record the events surrounding the very first martyrdom, that of Stephen.  This Stephen is a man known for his faith and his ability to do great wonders through the Holy Spirit.  But it is his boldness and wisdom that finally prompt his adversaries to bring him before the Sanhedrin on a charge of blasphemy.”
