Tag Archive: God’s plan for my life

So I have officially survived low carb week number two!!  Woo-hoo!!  As you know, the source of my joy from last week was bacon (you can read about it here) and I have also found a wonderful recipe for low carb crispy cheese crackers! (and yes, they are AMAZING!!)

However, I have also found a few of the pounds that I lost from week one, which is certainly a bummer, but pleasantly surprised when I compared pictures…

and from the front:

It’s so interesting how our mind plays tricks on us.  I have been disappointed in the number on the scale this week, like I said I gained back 3 of the 10 I lost, and although I knew my clothes were fitting better, I felt gross.  I believed the lies running through my head telling me:

“What’s the point?”
“Why bother?”
“Just quit now, stop this silliness and eat whatever you want!”

“Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart before Him in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things.”   1 John 3:18-20

The Bible tells us that not to trust our feelings.  Our hearts are home in this world, the world in which the enemy tries to convince us that we are to live for ourselves, no one else and especially not God!!

The devil wants us distracted and focused on insignificant things instead of things God would want us doing; how tight our jeans are instead of how God sees us, how great frosting tastes instead of treating our bodies well, how wonderful the warm bed feels instead of getting up early to pray, spending money on eating out instead of placing our 10% in the plate, what we might miss on facebook instead of spending time reading His Word, watching that one tv show instead of spending time with our kids or spouse.

We are so easily swayed by our feelings and emotions and that’s exactly what the evil one wants.

“Remember how fun it was?” he whispers.
“Remember how wonderful it tastes?”  he sneers.
“Remember how good it feels?” he jabs

“There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”   Proverbs 14:12

Stop listening to the lies.  We have a God who wants the best for us, has the best planned for us, and all we have to do is choose Him!

“and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of their children after them.”   Jeremiah 32:39

I traveled along the Blue Ridge Parkway this past week.  It was the most beautiful and calming stretch of road I have ever traveled.

The expanse of highway travels along the Appalachian Mountain range, through Virginia and North Carolina, at a comfortable leisurely 45 mph pace and offers no distraction of cellular service making it impossible to ignore its splendor.

It is filled with amazing peaks, stunning vistas and gorgeous views.

It entices us to jump; to soar in God’s promises and His word is heard in its echo:

“they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”   Isaiah 40:31

And while we stand upon the mountain, our adversary uses those close-up magnificent views to turn our focus upon the rugged, daunting mountain set before us. He reminds us we are incapable and unable to walk the path that lies ahead:

“We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment…”   Isaiah 64:6

One minute we are on an incredibly spiritual high; we know what God has planned for us, our steps are sure and strong, the path ahead is exhilarating and clear enabling us to sit a while in His presence.

“but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.”   Proverbs 1:33

Then at the next turn the shadows appear; our footing is slow and apprehensive, the darkness drifts in and the path ahead is questionable.

Each corner appears sharp, unsure and cold and we begin to doubt.  We question if we are on the right road after all; incapable of seeing through the forest, unable to decipher the way.

But we can trust in God’s promises.  Light will appear once more and the shadows will run.

“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”   2 Timothy 1:7

“He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.”   Psalm 40:2

Are you in the midst of a shadow?

Are you unable to see the way out?

God promises to guide and to lead.  Trust in His timing, take rest in His plan and you will again feel sure-footed and secure.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”   Jeremiah 29:11

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion…”   Philippians 1:6

As I put on my jeans today I noticed immediately that I grabbed the wrong pair.  You know that snug feeling as you’re pulling up that unyielding denim, knowing that there is no way it will go over the saddlebags looming above.

Awesome.

Then, glancing down at what must be my skinny jeans, I notice my not-so-skinny-jeans stuck helplessly, hopelessly, on my somehow suddenly-much-more-swollen-than-last-time legs.

Aaaack!  Talk about impending muffin top!!

It broke my heart.  I sat down and cried out (quite literally) “COME ON!”

I ripped off the unforgiving denim, gave in to pulling on some sweats and stomped out to mow the grass.

I was so angry.  I was mad that I haven’t been eating well and I was mad that I had stopped exercising.  Sure, I worked full time and didn’t have a lot of time to spare, so I replaced exercise with extended prayer to seek God’s will and plan for my writing.

But now I’m not working.  I have time.

Last night, I spied God leading me to a wonderful blog post by: runninggalinsights.  It reminded me of what I miss from my early morning runs…

“I run. It’s where God and I hang out.
On each run, I spend it listening to Him (not an Ipod). It’s quiet out there on the road, me and my shoes and the open air.
Welcome to my wandering thoughts collected from miles on the road. This blog seeks to explore anything that relates to a healthier Spirit, Mind, and Body.”

As I mowed and spent some much needed time in God’s creation;
warm sun rays engulfing me,
smell of cut grass filling the air,
birds flittering in playful circles nearby…
I began to reflect upon runninggal’s blog

What if one of the reasons I have been so unmotivated, so down, and so unsure, is because I have an adversary;

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”   1 Peter 5:8

…an enemy who wants nothing more than for me to turn from things of God and focus on myself, my feelings, my sorrow.

“That’s ludicrous,” I thought and tried to wipe the thought from my head.  I’m the one that stopped running.  I’m the one that chose what I put in my mouth.  But as I turned it over in my mind, I couldn’t help but realize the partial truth to it.

I found great joy in my early morning runs with God.  Not necessarily the running part, but the God part.  I experienced nature in ways I never imagined, and unlike runninggal, I do listen to music…but I tend to cry and praise God while I run.  Which I actually don’t recommend, because it makes breathing much more difficult, can be quite hazardous while running with closed eyes and hands raised, and it is NOT pretty.  Hence my early-morning-shadow-seeking-before-light-breaks runs.

A lovely new blogger friend God placed in my life: lovebugsworld was struggling a few days ago and she blogged about God giving her what she calls a “God wink” in her post: Day 14 #photoadayMay…

“And in that pic there is a tiny yellow flower that caught my eye. That put a knowing smile on my face!! Just as I was composing this, I was thinking about the silver lining of it all….it’s okay to began again. We are blessed to see another day. It’s another chance to be all that we can be and continue to do exactly what we were placed here to do!!”

and today I spied God winking at me.

While I continued to push the whirring mower in fairly straight lines, as the sun beat down and I was thankful to turn the final corner, something in the grass not too far from me caught my eye.  A tiny yellow flower.  It literally took my breath away, and I knew God was smiling, just waiting patiently for me to notice.

In that lovely, bright yellow blossom; a radiant bloom in barren terrain, a beckoning signal against a faded backdrop, a fragile and tiny gift that might have been overlooked had I focused on myself or my adversary much longer.

“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”   Acts 20:24

But God reminds us to stay the course, do not get distracted or listen to lies the evil one whispers.  Trust His timing, His plan, and keep your focus, because He’s everywhere trying to catch your attention!!

Have you ever questioned God’s plan for your life?  That, like Moses, perhaps He’s got the wrong guy?

“But he said, ‘Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.'”   Exodus 4:13

That He should use someone who is smarter, speaks more eloquently, is more qualified, more prepared, has more money…

God’s Word tells us that He does not make mistakes.

Ever.

He knew your every moment even before He formed you in the womb.
“My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”   Psalm 139:15-16
He chose you and takes great joy in you.
“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”   Zephaniah 3:17
He chose you for a specific purpose.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”   Jeremiah 29:11

He will see you through.

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”   Philippians 1:6

Breath of Heaven was written as “Mary’s song” but it applies to all of us who have doubts that we can live up to God’s plan for our lives…

Breath of Heaven – Amy Grant

I am waiting in a silent prayer.
I am frightened by the load I bear.
In a world as cold as stone,
Must I walk this path alone?
Be with me now.
Be with me now.

Breath of Heaven, hold me together
Be forever near me, breath of Heaven
Breath of Heaven, lighten my darkness
Pour over me Your holiness for You are holy
Breath of Heaven

Do you wonder as you watch my face
If a wiser one should have had my place?
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of Your plan
Help me be strong, help me be
Help me
