Since I started sharing my “I spy God” stories several years ago… originally with close friends and family members… I have now had the unique honor of hearing some awesome stories of how God has been seen working in their own lives.

What an incredible gift!!

Just this afternoon I received a text from my friend Amy, who shared the following:

“I have been hitting the snooze alarm a lot this week and getting up too late.
So last night I prayed for a restful sleep and for energy this morning.
Well, this morning I hit snooze again, but actually turned off my alarm this time.
Two minutes before I needed to be up, the “low battery” beep from the smoke detector went off.
Twice, that was it!
I was up on time and arrived at work on time, sending my praise to Him during my drive in!!”

What an incredible blessing it has been to see their eyes opened, experiencing God in a new way.

To hear their excitement over seeing Him work in their lives.

To realize He is something tangible and wants their attention.

To watch the change from dismissing it as “coincidence” and “luck,” to giving the credit where credit is due.

Praise Him!!

“for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”   Philippians 2:13

How has God been at work in your life?

What a day!

So I had started a totally different post this morning, then quickly ran out of time (I Spy God #1) so I saved what I wrote as a draft then planned to pen more when I got home from work.

Well here I am again, but not working on the original draft.  I guess I will work on that another day.  I just HAD to tell you what happened today…and even after all of the awesome things God has done for me the past couple days!!

So, I didn’t pack a lunch this morning when I left for work.  Ok, I took an apple because that’s about all we have.  We do have some oranges (which are for my hubby…I am NOT a fan) or we have pickles, (which I AM a fan but didn’t want to put them in a baggie)…

You remember those days when your Mom sent a dill pickle or an egg salad sandwich in your lunch and EVERYONE knew it was yours because the smell penetrated your locker, followed you all the way to the cafeteria, and most likely the pickle leaked and your lunch bag was now soaked along with the bread holding your egg salad.

It’s 30 years later, and I still was NOT going there.

So off I went.  I was sort of bummed when I got to work and noticed that the conference room light wasn’t on.  When the conference room light is on, that is the indication that someone brought goodies to share with the office, and the feast is at hand!!  It brings a whole new meaning to “We’ll leave the light on for ya’.”

Like, yesterday, when there were veggies and dip, and some yummy cookies…it was quite a blessing because I didn’t bring a lunch then either!  🙂  (I Spy God #2)

“Oh well,” I thought.  There’s not always something brought in, and at least I brought an apple.

About half an hour later, a co-worker came in and asked if I had gotten a doughnut yet.  A DOUGHNUT?!!  Apparently someone had brought something in, but didn’t turn the light on!!

SWEET!!  (I Spy God #3)

As I praised God for providing, AGAIN, I began wondering how we were going to provide snacks for small group tonight.  I thought I had a cookie mix of some sort in the cupboard, and maybe we had some popcorn… but all I knew was God would work it out.

“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’”   Matthew 6:31

Around lunch time I checked my phone and there was a message from one of the couples who are part of our small group, and it said:

“Was wondering when someone will be home.  Would like to drop off the water and a few other items.”

I told her I would be home by 3:00.

“Cool – I’ll stop by about 3:30ish.  I have water, cookies, crackers, cheese cubes and some pretzels.”

“…for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”   Matthew 6:8

My God is AMAZING, is ALWAYS working, and wants you to notice Him in your life too!!

So often I have people tell me that God doesn’t work in their lives the way He works in mine.

To that, I disagree.  God works in all of our lives and wants to get all of our attention, we just need to be willing to look and to give Him the credit!!

Next time, when something happens in your life and you think, “isn’t it cool how that worked itself out?”  Well, maybe it’s not just coincidence or good timing…maybe someone’s trying to get your attention!!

“Lord, give me eyes to see you working in my life and during my day.  Please make your presence known and don’t let me take You for granted!!

Why Spy God?!

When I was a kid I played “I spy with my little eye…” with my Grandma. She lived in a small town, on Main Street, directly across from the only grocery store for miles. There was always lots of activity, lots to watch, a perfect place to play “I Spy,” and we would sit on her front porch for hours.

It was always fun to be the “spy-er,” because until the other person found what it was you were focused on it was invisible to them. They were essentially blind to it until enough yes or no questions were asked to figure it out, or until it was literally pointed it out to them.

I love to write short stories about how God works in my life. I see Him in the little things…the moments that others might call coincidence, fate, irony or chance.

It’s easy to see God working when there are miraculous events; unexplained healing from an illness or disease, or walking away from a terrible car accident.  But do you see Him in the little things?  You  know those times; the closest parking space open in the pouring rain or an extra $5 left in your coat pocket.

I truly believe that God wants us to see Him in the little things, and the more you give Him the credit and the glory, the more you will see Him trying to get your attention!

I long to share the stories God has given me with everyone.  I pray that the Spirit might give them understanding, and open their eyes to see that God works in every aspect and detail of their day.

There are no coincidences, ironies, or luck… all details are fashioned and planned by God, and He wants us to see how tangible and involved in life He is.  These are the moments when “I Spy God,” and what my stories focus on…because God certainly isn’t little or mundane!
“‘Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.’ And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.” 1 Kings 19:11-12
