Second Letter to the Thessalonians

“Paul’s first letter seemingly causes some misunderstanding among the Thessalonians, many of whom interpreted it as saying that the second coming would be taking place right away.  Therefore Paul sends a second letter to clarify this misunderstanding.”

“The historical record continues with this account of Paul being persecuted in Corinth.”

Third Missionary Journey

“Paul begins his third journey by passing north and west through Galatia and Phrygia.  It is clear that Paul continues to be concerned about the spiritual growth of those whom he had converted several years earlier.

Paul then travels to Macedonia.  Of special significance are letters which Paul writes to the church in Corinth — a church which has developed some serious problems since Paul last visited with them.”

Second Missionary Journey

“Not long after writing his letter to the churches in Galatia, Paul decides that it is an appropriate time for a personal visit.  Accompanying Paul from Antioch is his fellow minister, Silas.  While traveling they find a disciple named Timothy, and their meeting is the beginning of a close and productive relationship between the older apostle and this young man, who is to become Paul’s protege.

Being directed by the Holy Spirit, Paul travels to many places including Macedonia.  There, in the city of Philippi, Paul converts a godly woman named Lydia and establishes a congregation with which Paul will have perhaps one of his closest associations over the ensuing years.

Paul, Silas and Timothy travel large distances with both marginal results and eagerness by both Jews and Greeks.  Luke’s record of this second missionary journey begins on a discordant note as Paul has a dispute with Barnabas, who was initially planning to join Paul on the tour.”
