The Perean Ministry
“When Jesus goes into the area beyond the Jordan River, he enters the Perean province ruled by the tetrarch Herod Antipas, the same Herod who had earlier beheaded John the Baptist. Jesus does not fear Herod, however, because he knows that his end will come only in Jerusalem. It is unclear whether a warning about Herod comes from Pharisees who really believe in Jesus or whether they are simply trying to get Jesus to leave their area.
Jesus once again teaches through numerous parables covering a wide range of subjects including the cost of discipleship, the value of lost souls, the rejection of his kingdom, the need for humility, and the unrighteousness of hypocritical religion.”
