Elijah the Prophet

“When Israel is in a time of great crisis, it is predictable that God will raise up a spokesman to call out to his people and to perform special miracles to confirm his message.  Israel is clearly in another crisis of character and direction, and God’s man of the day is the prophet Elijah.

Elijah is perhaps best known for his dramatic mountaintop encounter with the prophets of Baal, demonstrating beyond question the unlimited power of the one true and living God of the universe.

Yet immediately after this great demonstration of God’s power, Elijah shows himself to be like other men of God who come down from ‘mountaintop’ experiences only to face self-doubt and to forget God’s power and concern.”
